Meet the first civilization in the world.
The Minoan palace is the main site to visit in Knossos, an important city of antiquity, with continuous life from the Neolithic years to the 5th century. It is built on the hill of Kefala, with easy access to the sea but also to the interior of Crete. According to tradition, it was the seat of the wise king Minos. Fascinating myths of the Labyrinth with the Minotaur and of Daedalus with Icarus, are associated with the palace of Knossos. Αfter the eruption of Santorini’s Volcano, the tsunami that erupted destroyed the entire city. The palace of Knossos was discovered by the English excavator Arthur Evans in 1930. Neolithic buildings were discovered under the palace courtyard in 1961. Numerous and exceptional art finds from the palace, vases, utensils, figurines, the archive of Linear B writing tablets, as well as the originals of the wall paintings, are kept in the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion.
