1. Insurance packages | Do you block money for guarantee?

We offer two types of insurance packages so that you can choose what responds to your personal needs. If you select the Mega insurance package no credit card is needed as it is a package with fully comprehensive insurance without an excess (zero excess). However, if you choose the Relax insurance package you are privileged with the Collision Damage Waiver and 500 euros excess will be required to be paid either by credit card or cash, according to your convenience.

There is absolutely not any extra charge in case of a flight delay as it refers to a situation that is not of your control. Our company is always aware of the position of your aircraft and when it is scheduled to be landed. However, whenever you are informed that your flight is going to be delayed, please immediately contact us via email, text message, telephone, WhatsApp, Viber, Signal or Telegram. The company's associate appointed to your booking will be alert to deliver you your car on time, aiming to your carefree first experience with our amazing island.

A one-way car rental allows you to pick up a car in one location and drop it off in another. It’s the ultimate tool for flexibility and convenience, enabling you to tailor your travel plans to your specific needs. It’s very simple. When you make your reservation, just enter your preferred drop-off location to see the availability and fees for a one-way rental. 

Fees are determined on a case-by-case basis depending on where the vehicle is and where it needs to be taken back. They will typically be assessed at the time of booking and can vary depending on factors such as:

  • Drop-off location
  • Distance
  • Rental duration
  • Type of vehicle

If you have already booked a rental but wish to change your drop-off location, contact us via email,phone, text message, Viber, Telegram, WhatsApp etc. Additional fees apply if you try to drop off your rental at a new location without prior authorization from Intercars.

Please note: You can only drop your vehicle off at a different location if it has been confirmed with Intercars in advance, this is because drop-off arrangements may be subject to the availability of drop-off spaces at the desired location. So, if you wish to return your rental car to a different location, it’s best to notify us beforehand to ensure a smooth experience.

A fully valid and legal driving license and a valid and legal international passport or id card are the essential documents to be carried with when car rental services are acquired. Those with licenses from outside the EU will also need an international driving permit. In such cases, we recommend visiting the Internation Drivers' Association website to convert your driving license into an international one by following a simple procedure.

 

We are located 1 minute away on foot and opposite to the arrivals section of Heraklion airport. You will pick up our car from Intercars desk area where our partner will accompany you upon your arrival. Drop off will be at the same place, there is always a free entrance. At the point when you communicate with us, requiring our services, we can forward our google map points to you. Heraklion airport departures section is located 4 minutes away on foot from our desk area.

Intercars gives you two options to hire a vehicle just by following some simple and easy steps.

Use of automatic booking engine on our website:

  • Select the pick-up location from which the vehicle is to be rented, as well as the date and time of rental that fit your schedule. One-way rental services are also available (you may pick up the vehicle from one station and return it to another). Check the box which determines you as an authorized driver according to the required age limits.
  • Browse vehicles, compare prices, and consider including add-ons. Select the vehicle class you prefer. If “OFFER” is displayed, the benefits provided by the offer can be used.
  • Select the insurance package you need. Select extras if necessary, and indicate the number you require.
  • Enter the required customer information.
  • Confirm the reservation by checking whether the reservation summary and driver details displayed are correct. Once the reservation has been completed, the details of such reservation will be sent to the registered email address.

Visit the Car Rental Request section on our website, fill in the form provided and receive a car rental quote characterized by your personal requirements. Insert your personal details, pick-up and drop off location, car rental group, any other additional services you may need and allow us to guide you through a fast and precise service. Our prompt and courteous customer service line will process your request shortly and provide several suggestions that will adequately correspond to your personal needs.

After you agree to use our services and hire a car from our company, you will be required to send an image with your identity card, driving license and your full address with the zip code of your residence. When it is time to pick up the car, we will hand you the contract with the car key ready and you will start your journey without delay. The contract will be electronically completed by our company.

Please note: In case that the customer does not meet the requirements that were supposed to be sent as mentioned above, he will have to wait on the queue, until his turn comes up. Then, after showing all the necessary documents, the company will electronically fill in his contract and deliver the rented vehicle.

You have the option to add up to three drivers upon the contract concerning the vehicle you have rented. Authorized drivers will have to meet the same age and driver’s license requirements of the renter at no additional charge. 

Yes, you are allowed to visit Balos beach as long as you make sure that the vehicle is not riding surfaces which are unpaved such as sand, dirt, gravel, riverbeds, mud, rocks or other natural terrain. There is a bus that conducts daily routes from the newly paved large parking area of Balos lagoon to the small off road one for a small fee, from which you reach the beach of Balos after a 20-minute walk. For your information, the smaller off road parking lot can host around 100 cars but its use is strictly prohibited as it is your responsibility to ensure that you stay on paved roads at all times. Driving on unpaved roads voids Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) coverage. Should these restrictions be ignored, all insurances if accepted shall be deemed null and void. The driver will be held fully responsible in case of damage to, or loss of the vehicle and will bear all consequences, including the cost of repatriation of the damaged vehicle. Basically, you should never drive off-road unless you’re prepared to accept the risk that you could end up with a hefty repair bill. If you void the collision damage waiver you will be liable for the entire cost of the repairs to the vehicle, not just the excess amount.

Absolutely. We offer 24/7 road assistance service upon the tarmac. In case that the renter does not comply with the company's terms & conditions and drives off road places, he/she is then subjected to an additional fee that the assistance service will charge as well as the full damage cost of the car and the amount required to be removed from the point that the car is stuck.

Regarding the booking of your vehicle the following cancellation conditions apply.

Pay on Pick Up:

If you did not prepay for your reservation, there will not be a cancellation fee.

Partially and Fully Prepaid Reservations:

  • Intercars offers free cancellation up to 7 days before the scheduled pick-up time. A total refund will be processed automatically after the cancellation and will be made for the original booking amount. The bank expenses (€5) will be borne by the customer.
  • If you need to cancel your reservation less than 7 days prior to the scheduled pick-up time then our cancellation policy applies, which releases the company from the obligation of any type of refund. .

Please note: If the customer does not present the necessary documents (valid driving license/ ID /passport) the company retains the right to cancel the reservation and the customer is not entitled to a refund.

 

 

Modifying your reservation is possible as long as you do so 48 hours before the intended pick-up time. However, if you do decide to modify your reservation, please be aware that the price will not be guaranteed to be the same and this is due to us working with live rates and prices that constantly change. Availability is also another factor that can affect the modification required mostly during the peak rental season.

Rental extension is possible depending on availability of the vehicle.  You need to contact the pick-up station or the Intercars call center support which will provide the approval. The extension will be charged at the local daily rate.

Please Note: We would not advise simply retaining the vehicle without prior contact with the company, as that could constitute theft of the vehicle and bring a whole ton of trouble on your shoulders, not least of which could be charges of theft and driving without the owner's permission, and driving without insurance.

Rental car accidents can be a result of unfamiliarity with the vehicle or driving in unknown locations. Factors like distracted driving, speeding, and impaired driving are as applicable to rental cars as they are to your own vehicle. Therefore, you should get acquainted with the rental car’s features and functions, as well as our local traffic laws for a safer driving experience. Adjusting mirrors, seats, and controls, planning your route in advance can help avoid last-minute maneuvers that often lead to accidents.

Knowing what to do in an accident can save you stress, money and time. Whether it’s a major crash or a minor bump, if it leaves a mark on your vehicle, it is important not to panic and to solve problems by taking the right steps.

  • First of all, it is important to ensure safety in the event of an accident. Remain calm and tow the vehicle to a safe area, turn on the four-way flashers and, if necessary, place warning signs around it. Also, make sure that you and the other passengers are safe. If anyone is injured as a result of the accident or if the vehicle is obstructing the traffic, immediately call the police and an ambulance. The police will arrive at the scene and issue an accident report, which will be an important document when communicating with Intercars car rental.
  • After ensuring your safety, you must inform us immediately. The company will assess the situation and guide you on how to proceed. You will find the phone number on your rental documents or the company’s website. 
  • Get the contact and insurance information of any other drivers involved in the accident. Collect the names of any passengers and eyewitnesses. Note the makes and models of all the other vehicles involved, as well as their number plates. Get information about the location of the accident, such as street names. Take photos of everything to help support any claim you may have to make. This includes the vehicles in the accident, all specific damage and other supporting shots like where it happened. File the accident report.Be sure to provide accurate and detailed information to prevent any disputes later on.
  • If the car is drivable, you should take it back to our premises. If not, call us directly and we will make arrangements with the roadside assistance and have it towed.

When you encounter damaged or crashed rental cars, it's important to stay calm and manage the situation by taking the right steps. Intercars car rental is dedicated to providing you quick and efficient support, turning such distressful situations into a hassle-free experience. In case of a delay in the prearranged time of the return of the vehicle that is stated on the contract, customers are obligated to inform our office. A grace period of 30 minutes is allowed otherwise an additional daily charge will be applied at the local daily rate.

First, immediately contact our customer service department and we will inform you of the procedure to be followed. Provide the customer service representative with your exact location and give directions if it is difficult to find. Let the representative know if you are stranded so that we can make arrangements to send someone out with the spare keys immediately.

You will be responsible for any loss or damage to the rental car key as well as locking it inside the car. Optional insurance coverage purchased through Intercars does not cover the cost of missing/damaged key. Depending on the type of key, replacement fees can range from €140 to €480. Furthermore, there are extra expenses concerning the procedure of the spare key delivery, like occupying staff on the grounds of negligence and their transportation expenses to the point of the incident.

Every car and van ordered, is delivered clean and tidy to you. Upon the vehicle's return there is a tolerance of reasonable dirt and no extra charge is applied. Nevertheless, in excess dirt cases such as sand, stones, rubbish, spilled food or beverages etc. customers will be subjected to a cleaning fee of €10.

There's no substitute for safety, especially when you're travelling with children. Each time you reserve an Intercars rental car, be sure to request a safety seat for each child travelling with you. In order to reserve a child safety seat, simply select the appropriate size during the online reservation process, or speak to our customer service line. Prices vary depending on the child seat you choose but since our constant effort is to assist you in the best way possible, Intercars is granting you baby and booster seats absolutely free of charge.

All children aged under three travelling in cars in Greece must be placed in a suitable child restraint. Children aged between 3 and 11 must be seated in an appropriate child restraint for their size. From the age of 12, children over 1.35m tall can wear an adult seat belt.

Please note: Before you start your road trip, it is extremely important to ensure that the child seat is installed correctly. Even if you have experience with child seats, we advise you to always check if it is truly installed correctly and if the child in it is fastened in the best and safest possible way. You can install the child seat on one of the 2-3 rear seats or the passenger seats. However, depending on the exact model of the car and the type of child seat, one may be more appropriate than the other. Most manufacturers recommend installing the baby seat in the front seat facing the rear, and a child or booster seat should be installed in the rear seat facing the front. Another important thing to keep in mind is that you need to disable the airbag when you install the seat in the front. If you are not sure how to do this, the staff at the rental station can help you here. 

Setting up the child/baby seat is a responsibility that rests with the hirer and will not be performed by Intercars employees due to liability in case of inappropriate installation. Of course, our specialized staff is always at your disposal on providing guidance, however we disclaim all responsibility.

 

There are two types of fuel policy that our company offers to all renters:

  • Also known as like-for-like or same-to-same, booking with return with the same amount policy implies what it says on the tin! This is our standard fuel policy under which vehicles must be returned with the same amount of fuel as provided upon collection. For this fair fuel policy, we recommend taking a photo of your fuel gauge for reference on return and for disputes on fuel disparities. 
  • Prepaid Full-Empty fuel policy is your second option, where you collect the car with a full tank of fuel, paying upfront for it 100 euros and must then return it with an almost empty tank. Upon return, you are not entitled to a refund for returning the car with unused fuel. There are significant advantages that you can benefit from this policy such as not wanting to lose time at a fuel station when you are in a hurry to catch your flight/boat or not being familiar with the area around your chosen drop off point and thus not knowing the location of the nearest fuel station. Furthermore, you are able to have all your expenses deriving from the car rental, all in one invoice and of course you save time when returning the car to our offices.

In case of long term car rental, customers are obligated to present in the nearest Intercars car rental agency so that the routine car maintenance (fluid levels for brake and power steering systems, radiator coolant and engine oils, water, lights etc.) is performed to help you avoid major repair costs that follow a roadside breakdown. Failing to follow preventative auto maintenance guidelines could void the vehicle’s insurance.

Please note: Our monthly car rental rates are available for rentals that last up to 31 days. Intercars car rental does not provide long term leasing services.
